Position Summary:

This role, reporting to the Director, Integrated Communications, manages two cost-recovery service units within Communications and External Relations (CER) – Graphic Design, which produces professional design materials in both print and digital formats and is responsible for stewarding the University’s visual identity, and Multimedia Services, which records, transmits and edits lectures, conferences and other events and produces video content for educational and/or promotional purposes. He or she may also oversee other communications services as needed and will act as the primary point of contact for clients across McGill. Working within CER’s Integrated Communications team, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the content produced by these sub-units aligns with the strategic goals of both Communications & External Relations and the University as a whole.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage Graphics and Multimedia service units.
  • Develop supporting policies and processes that will potentially have University-wide impact.
  • Negotiate agreements with suppliers and clients and act as signing authority within area of responsibility.
  • Evaluate business processes and systems and adjust as needed to maximize operating efficiency.
  • Manage the budget for the units; including establishing cost-recovery goals and ensuring that they are met.
  • Establish and maintain quality control measures.
  • Oversee management of the University’s visual identity; support Integrated Communications on matters involving logo usage and permissions, as well as McGill’s trademark policy and brand strategy as needed.
  • Ensure that content produced by units is on brand and aligns with the strategic goals of Communications and External Relations and the University as a whole.
  • Oversee the production and quality control of projects, events, publications sponsored by Communications and External Relations.
  • Manage the intake of work requests/creative briefs and assign work to team members.
  • Manage client relations (with both academic and administrative staff); including leading the briefing process and clarifying strategic project goals.
  • Ensure efficient workflow and production scheduling, and monitor project delivery dates and budgets to ensure that projects are completed on time and on budget.
  • Given the cost-recovery model, that underpins two Communications Services units, attract new clienteles and foster relationships with high-level/high-volume clients.
  • Measure quality of service on an ongoing basis and adjust as required to ensure top quality service and product.
  • Work closely with the Administrative Coordinator, who performs financial transactions (e.g. billing, etc.) for units.
  • Manage the Graphics team and the Multimedia team, including performance review, setting and management of objectives, training support, etc., to help them realize their full potential.
  • Determine staffing requirements and oversee recruitment and training/development of staff members to meet changing objectives and demands of units, and to implement process improvements.
  • Develop succession plans for the sub-units under his/her responsibility.
  • Serve as a member of the Emergency Communications group, supporting the University’s communications in urgent situations where the security of the McGill community is threatened; this requires knowledge of applicable protocols and procedures, and availability outside of business hours.

Minimum Education & Experience:

Undergraduate degree

Five (5) years’ related experience

Parfaitement bilingue, français et anglais, à l’oral et à l’écrit.
